FlowHeater ®

PrintE-mail

The FlowHeater functionality closely resembles the concept of a continuous-flow water heater. A wide variety of data sources can be interconnected with FlowHeater and by making use of exchangeable adapters, there is no restriction to the data flow.  more »

For example, the data in an Oracle database tables can be copied directly and without manual intervention into an MS SQL Server database. Furthermore, while the copy proceeds the data can be "heated", i.e. converted, amended, transformed, manipulated and additional dynamic or static data injected, as predetermined by a definition set.

Think of all those time-consuming and error-prone manual imports and exports of CSV text files and databases you have done over the years. FlowHeater makes your life really simple and each conversion can be reused over and over.

Adapters available include

Each Adapter can be connected to any other, in any combination you want.

flowheaterText files

for the reading or writing of text files. Differing character encoding (codepages) and locales are automatically taken into account. It supports all standard CSV formats and with fixed column widths can also prepare reports.

flowheaterMS Excel

used for the import/export of spreadsheet data to or from Microsoft Excel (XLS, XLSX). The Adapter supports Excel/Office versions 97, 2000, 2002 (XP), 2003 and 2007.

flowheaterMS Access

specially designed for import/export of data to or from Microsoft Access MDB, MDE, ACCDB, ACCDE databases.

flowheaterMySQL Enterprise

this makes it possible to import, export and update MySQL Enterprise Server databases. The Adapter supports MySQL Server Version 3.x and higher.

flowheaterMS SQL Server

used to import, export and update MS SQL Server databases / tables. Supports all MS SQL Server versions from 7.0 to 2008.

flowheaterOracle databases

for the import, export and update of Oracle databases. The adapter can cope with all Oracle databases from version 8 upwards.

flowheaterODBC data sources

any desired ODBC data source can be integrated into FlowHeater with this adapter. The only prerequisite is the installation of an ODBC driver for your data source.

flowheaterGenerate test data

this adapter generates test data. Any desired number of test data records comprising any chosen static or dynamic content can be created.

flowheater.NET Data Table

This Adapter is intended especially for the .NET developers among us. With this you can integrate your own Adapter into FlowHeater or make use of the FlowHeater engine in your own programs.

flowheaterMore will follow!

Possible extensions to functionality

  • Print function for the Definition set
  • Synchronization of data source/target
  • More than two Adapters in one Definition, in this way several tables can be imported or exported simultaneously and/or combined with one another using relations
  • Read/write unstructured text data e.g. headers and footers, one record split across several lines, etc.
  • Possibly a wizard feature, in order to make it even simpler (can it be any simpler?)
  • Further Adapters, such as OLEDB, PostgreSQL, Informix, DB2, Sharepoint, dBase, XML, Email, Datanorm, ...
  • Further functions (Heater) such as subroutines, loop controls (for, foreach, while), ...
  • Audit function for validation of the import/export data prior to actual processing
  • Passing parameters for Heaters over Pipes: This will achieve a level of flexibility that practically reaches that of individual programming, without having to actually resort to programming
  • Internal data type RAW – in this way it will be possible to work with binary data such as images, graphics and completely unknown database data types
  • Starting of external programs before, during and after execution of the Definition
  • Visual Studio add-in for the integration of the DataTable Adapter
  • Debugging to simplify tracing of errors
  • Workflows
  • and so on :-)
